Blood Drive

March 24, 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Yes, we are still having the blood drive!  sign up with Merri 309.945.8216

We are encouraging blood donations now and in the next 8 weeks to ensure adequate supplies during the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19).  We are working to prevent shortages locally. We are monitoring credible health agencies for updates on COVID-19 and are responding accordingly. There is no known risk to the safety of the nation’s blood supply except for lack of donations and there are no reports of the spread of this respiratory virus, by blood transfusion. Giving blood is critical to ensure an adequate supply to meet patient needs.

I do want to assure you that the blood drive falls within parameters suggested by the CDC – it is not a large gathering. Even with the goal of 13 donors, those donors are coming and going during a three hour period, so interaction is limited.

In addition, we have implemented our Emergency Plan here at the Blood Center to protect donors and our staff.  This includes:

  • Placing only one screening station on a table (observing social distancing)
  • Wiping down all machines and equipment after each use
  • Spacing beds apart to continue social distancing
  • Wiping down beds after each use
  • Encouraging donors to allow space in the refreshment area

In addition, donors who want to limit time at the drive can complete the EarlyQ prior to coming to the drive; we can the barcode emailed to them and they move directly to the vital station, then to donation. Feel free to share the link with your donors:  www.bloodcenter.org/earlyq
